Steps to become a Counselor

To obtain a license you should apply to the Michigan Board of Counseling.

The program you are going to enroll should be accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) or the National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE). Your program should also include 600-hours of supervised clinical internship.

If you already have a master’s degree you should earn 3.000 hours of practice during the 2 years. 100 of these hours should be completed under the supervision of a licensed profession.
• Thirdly, pass either the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) exam or Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification Exam.
• After that, you can fill the form, attach all the required documents and submit to the Board.

Steps to become a Social Worker

For your social worker license you should apply to the Michigan Board of Social Work.
